APEX LIVE fourth workshop Saturday April 21st 2012

DJ Shoey came to the APEX workshop today to do a session. DJ Shoey is an ‘Old School Female Dance Dj from Cornwall who won DJ of the year for Helter Skelter in ’98 and played alongside some of the best DJs in the UK – Cally , mark eg , Lomas, Sharkey, Dolphin, vinylgroover, Scorpio and Producer’.

The session started with a demo by DJ Shoey and then individual lessons – 6 people took part and all LOVED IT! Thanks DJ Shoey for giving everyone a great experience.

Later we practised David’s, Eddie’s, Siobhan’s and the intro to Paul’s song.

Interview with West Briton at Digital Media Session

Unplanned but welcomed… the West Briton came down to do an interview with APEX – they heard about us via Caroline, Kyle’s mum who promoted us to the media during their follow-up reporting on Kyle – thankyou Caroline. They promise to come and take pictures of the whole group at the next workshop, May 4th and then hopefully it’ll appear in the paper before the first show on May 26th.

Well done to all participants who were interviewed and photographed ‘on the spot’ – the reporter commented on how lovely the group was – ‘like one big family’ he said.

APEX LIVE third workshop Saturday March 31st, 2012

This workshop welcomed Kyle Coleman and his mum, Caroline. We worked on Minnie’s Hermes song and then Kyle performed ‘Just Listen’ from his new Therefore I Am album. Jane also performed her ‘Origami’ song with movements. We also did some work on the collaborative new song for Shallal.

On Saturday we worked on Rory’s I LISTEN TO LOVE and Adrian’s TAKE CONTROL. What a great session. Thankyou to all who came for working so hard. Inspirational stuff.

Happy 2012 everyone !
Just an update really to let everyone know where we are at the moment.

In November APEX were asked to perform for 10-15 mins at an Autism Event at New County Hall, Truro, on 30th November to celebrate a visit by Nan Carle. Unfortunately we had no money or time left for a workshop but were asked if we could appear no matter how small the group. So, David, Eddie and Siobhan, who were already going to the event, agreed to sing their songs with Tony and Jacqui providing the backing. We had an amplified rehearsal one afternoon at home with the PA and then we were there, being commissioned to perform live. Luckily it went down really well and we got some great comments and appreciation. Have a look at the pics (taken by Lloyd Burchell – thanks Lloyd)
“…the band was just brill and such good feedback – l have told the national NAS to use you at National Events” Scott Hall, Commissioning Officer, Autism, Adult Care and Support.

There was a lot of talk and ideas forwarded that night about fundraising for the future – that coupled with requests from participants, old and new, to perform live or perform again, from David, Eddie and Siobhan. So, we’re now fundraising for APEX LIVE – “a rehearsal, composition, performance, DJ and VJ skills-based programme, enabling the participants the chance to promote their songs to a wider audience, learning technical and amplification skills alongside digital media/publicity tuition”.
